TSHR (thyroid stimulating hormone receptor) is a thyrotropin and glycoprotein hormone receptor centrally involved in controlling thyroid cell metabolism. TSHR interacts with both TSH and autoantibodies against TSHR (thyroid-stimulating immunoglobulins, TSI). Mutations in the receptor cause hyperthyroidism including gestational hyperthyroidism (hypersensitivity to chorionic gonadotropin) and Grave's disease (autoimmune hyperthyroidism), for which TSHR is a therapeutic target.
