CDC25B, a CDC25 dual specificity protein phosphatase, has been shown to affect cell cycle regulation by activating cyclin-dependent kinases Cdk1 and Cdk2 during G2 phase. CDC25B also has been shown to possess oncogenic properties and has been implicated in lung, breast, esophagus, stomach, ovarian, and other cancers. Recently CDC25B has been shown to be a steroid receptor coactivator and this function is independent of the protein phosphatase activity in vitro. CDC25B deficient mice are viable but the female mice are sterile due to the arrest of cell division in oocytes. At least five mRNA splice variants have been documented for CDC25B.
