SARP1 is a Frizzled protein that lacks the 7-transmembrane motif used as anchor to the plasma membrane. They modulate Wnt signaling by competing with membrane-bound frizzled receptors for binding secreted Wnt ligands. SARP1 has high resistence to apoptotic stimuli. Transcripts are expressed in various tissues, with the highest levels in colon and small intestine. In bovines, SARP1 is also expressed in eye retina.
