Procollagen is the precursor of collagen, which is synthesized in osteoblasts and fibroblasts and subsequently exported from the cell and converted to collagen by procollagen peptidase. The two N- and C-terminal propeptides of type 1 procollagen, P1CP and P1NP, are targets of antibodies used to measure bone formation rate in diseases such as osteoporosis. Type 1 procollagen levels have been found to be reduced in sun-damaged skin.
Target Name: | Procollagen Type I |
