TOPK is a TOPK protein kinase which may be associated with cell signaling in lymphokine-activated killer T (T-LAK) cells and spermatogenesis. Studies suggest that mitotic phosphorylation is required for its catalytic activity. Similar to MEK3/MAP2K3 and MKK6/MAP2K6, activated TOPK phosphorylates the MAP kinase p38. At least two mRNA variants have been identified - a major full-length form and a minor spliced form at the 5'-site, both encoding the same protein. TOPK has been shown to be upregulated in Burkitt's lymphoma and other highly proliferative malignant cells.
