Neuron Specific Nuclear Protein (NeuN, Fox-3) is a nuclear antigen commonly used as a biomarker to highlight neural cells and as a tool to measure the neuron to glia ratio in brain tissue (PMID 15758160). Antibodies to NeuN recognize the majority of neurons and CNS/PNS cell types, but do not recognize olfactory Mitral cells, gamma motor neurons, cerebellar Purkinje cells or Golgi cells.
