Integrin-linked kinase-associated phosphatase 2C (ILKAP), a PP2C type serine/threonine phosphatase, is a monomeric enzyme composed of a catalytic and noncatalytic domain. The dephosphorylation catalytic activity is sensitive to manganese and magnesium. ILKAP has been found to associate with the integrin-linked kinase 1 (ILK1). It downregulates integrin and growth factor stimulated ILK1 activity. It is believed to target ILK1 signalling of the Wnt pathway via modulation of GSK3beta phosphorylation. Over-expression of ILKAP in mammalian cells has been found to result in inhibition of cell cycle progression.
