Ghrelin (lenomorelin) is a neuropeptide hormone produced by gastrointestinal ghrelinergic cells. Known as the "hunger hormone," Ghrelin is secreted in the stomach when it is empty and regulates appetite and energy homeostasis. A number of studies have examined whether controlling or inhibiting levels of Ghrelin can be used to treat obesity (PMID 27471718).
