Growth Arrest Specific Gene 1 (GAS1) is a GPI-anchored plasma membrane protein. It acts as a cell cycle inhibitor by blocking the G(0) to S phase transition in both normal and transformed cells. Recent experiments have shown that Hedgehog is a ligand for GAS1 and that together they are involved in embryonic patterning.
