C-ets-1 is a nuclear ETS proto-oncogene product that activate transcription by interaction with purine-rich sequences present in the promoter/enhancer region of the T-Cell antigen receptor (TCRA) gene. In many cancers such as leukemia and lymphomas, the ETS-1 gene is either translocated or rearranged and amplified. In contrast, ectopic expression of ETS-1 in colon cancer cell lines that do not normally express the gene, suppresses tumorigenicity at a transcriptional level. Therefore ETS-1 may be a potential drug for the treatment of cancer.
