EEF2K, also known as Ca2+/CaM-dependent protein kinase III, is a Alpha-kinase. EEF2K, a member of the calmodulin-mediated signaling pathway, catalyzes the movement of the ribosome along mRNA during translation in eukaryotic cells. At least three mRNA variants have been reported -- a major 3.1-kb transcript and minor 6.1- and 2.5-kb transcripts. EEF2K activity has been shown to be increased in several types of cancer, including breast cancer.
