DNP, short for 2,4-Dinitrophenol, is a crystalline solid with a yellow color and a musty odor. It has the formula HOC6H3(NO2)2. This organic compound is biochemically active, and inhibits mitochondrial ATP production. DNP conjugated to BSA (DNP-BSA) is broadly used as an allergen to stimulate cellular responses by cross-linking anti-DNP IgE antibodies.
