CD200, also known as OX-2, is a type I membrane protein belonging to the Ig superfamily. It has a 202 amino acid extracellular domain and a short cytoplasmic domain. CD200 is widely expressed by a variety of cell types. It interacts with CD200R another Ig superfamily inhibitory receptor primarily expresses on leukocytes of the myeloid lineage to inhibit myeloid functions. It has been shown to be up regulated in CLL. Studies of the related genes in mouse and rat suggest that this gene may regulate myeloid cell activity and delivers an inhibitory signal for the macrophage lineage in diverse tissues. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants that encode different isoforms have been found for this gene.
