SLC2A2 (GLUT2) is a transmembrane carrier protein involved in transporting glucose across cell membranes and between the liver and blood. Mutations in SLC2A2 are associated with Fanconi-Bickel syndrome. SLC2A2 is positive in breast, liver and colon cancers, where it may be involved in tumor glucose uptake and energy production. In immunohistochemistry of normal tissue, SLC2A2 has positive membranous staining in the liver, pancreatic B cells, and the basolateral membrane of renal tubular epithelium and the small intestine.
