PVR (Poliovirus receptor, CD155) is a transmembrane glycoprotein that mediates NK cell adhesion and triggers NK cell effector functions. PVR establishes intercellular adherens junctions between epithelial cells. It stimulates the adhesion and secretion of lytic granules and IFN-gamma and the activation of cytoxicity in activated NK cells. PVR also plays a role in mediating tumor cell invasion and migration and is thought to be involved in immune-evasion. PVR also serves as a receptor for poliovirus attachment to target cells. In immunohistochemistry, PVR has cytoplasmic and membranous positivity in most tissues throughout the body.
