NKX2-2 (NK2 homeobox 2) is a homeobox domain nuclear transcription factor involved in the morphogenesis of the central nervous system, including cranial nerves and motor neurons, as well as pancreatic islet cells. It is expressed in various brain regions and within pancreatic islets, and is nuclear in localization. It is useful as a marker to identify well-differentiated neuroendocrine tumors derived from the pancreas and GI tract.
