NEK7 is a protein kinase that plays an important role in mitotic cell cycle progression. It is required for microtubule nucleation activity of the centrosome, robust mitotic spindle formation and cytokinesis. NEK7 phosphorylates RPS6KB1. In cancer, it is upregulated in hepatocellular carcinoma and is thought to promote cancer cell proliferation.
