MVP (VAULT1) is the major component of the vault complex, amulti-subunit ribonucleoprotein structure that participates in nuclear to cytoplasmic transport. MVP regulates MAP kinases, as well as the JAK/STAT and phosphoinositide 3-kinase/Akt signaling pathways. It is found in smooth muscle and cardiac muscle, where it is involved in deciding cell fate and survival. It is further implicated in multidrug resistance, and expression of this gene may be a prognostic marker for several types of cancer.
