G protein-coupled receptor 6 (GPR6) is a transmembrane receptor with constitutive G(s) signaling activity that upregulates cyclic AMP. GPR6 promotes neurite outgrowth and blocks myelin inhibition in neurons. In immunohistochemsitry, GPR6 expression is limited to the nervous system, and it has membranous positivity primarily in the basal ganglia, with variable positivity in the cerebral cortex, amygdala, thalamus, hippocampus and pituitary gland.
