Hydroxycarboxylic acid receptor 1 (HCAR1) acts as a receptor for L-lactate / lactic acid and mediates its anti-lipolytic effect in fat cells through a G(i)-protein-mediated pathway. In immunohistochemistry, HCAR1 has highest membranous positivity in the parathyroid gland, and has moderate expression in the breast, the ductus deferens, the salivary gland, adipose tissue, the spleen, blood and is present at low levels in the spinal cord and a few other tissues throughout the body.
