CRBN (Cereblon) is a component of the DCX (DDB1-CUL4-X-box) E3 protein ligase complex, which mediates the ubiquitination and degradation of target proteins and is required for limb outgrowth. CRBN is required for the expression of the fibroblast growth factor FGF8. CRBN interacts with KCNT1 to regulate the assembly and neuronal surface expression of large-conductance calcium-activated potassium channels in brain regions involved in memory and learning. In immunohistochemistry, CRBN has nuclear positivity with some cytoplasmic and membranous localization. It is highly expressed throughout the brain and is also found in most other tissues.
