BMP10 (Bone morphogenetic protein 10) is a growth factor polypeptide that is required for cardiac growth during cardiogenesis and for maintaining the proliferation of embryonic cardiomyocytes. It also inhibits endothelial cell migration and growth, and it may reduce cell migration and cell matrix adhesion in breast cancer cells. Loss of BMP10 expression is indicative of poor prognosis in breast and ovarian cancer. Alterations or deficiencies in the BMP9 / BMP10 / ALK1 / Endoglin pathway may also contribute to Rendu-Osler-Weber syndrome (hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia), a hereditary vascular disorder. In immunohistochemistry, BMP10 primarily has extracellular and secretory positivity in heart muscle and mammary epithelia, with some expression in the liver.
