Alpha-1-adrenergic receptors (ADRA1A) is a receptor that functions to regulate cellular growth and proliferation and activate various mitogenic responses. In the brain, it may participate in the flight-or-flight response via epinephrine. In immunohistochemistry, ADRA1A has highest membranous and cytoplasmic positivity in the basal ganglia, cerebral cortex and hippocampus in the brain, and is found throughout the central nervous system. It is also highly expressed in the liver, and has low to variable expression in other tissues throughout the body.
