ADRB3 (Beta-3 adrenergic receptor) is a receptor that regulates thermogenesis, lipolysis and cardiac and vascular contractile control, and functions to increase fatty acids in the blood. Variants in ADRB3 such as Trp64Arg are correlated with obesity and non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM). ADRB3 is also thought to play a role in serotonergic and noradrenergic neurotransmission in the central nervous system, and ARDB3 agonists such as SR58611A have antidepressant and anxiolytic effects on rodents. In immunohistochemistry, ADRB3 has highest membranous positivity in the caudate nucleus in the brain and in adipose tissue, and also stains the gallbladder, the urinary bladder, some reproductive tissues, smooth muscle and the appendix.
